Liverpool are in dire need of a defender. The Reds have no senior centre backs available and with the transfer deadline approaching there’s no margin for error. Plenty of names have been mooted. According to various reports, Liverpool are closing in on the £2m signing of Ben Davies.
Liverpool need a centre back
The Reds lost their two starting centre backs for the season back in Autumn.
Virgil van Dijk was lunged at in the Merseyside Derby.
Joe Gomez picked up a problem in England training.
The pair are unlikely to turn out again this term.
Since then we’ve seen Fabinho and Joel Matip also drop out of the team due to injury.
This weekend Jordan Henderson lined up at the back alongside Nat Phillips.
We need Hendo back in the middle, bringing a centre back in is essential.
Liverpool closing in on Ben Davies
There have been tonnes of players linked with a move to Anfield.
We appear to now have a front runner for the move.
The Athletic have reported that Liverpool are closing in on a £2m move for Ben Davies.
The 25-year-old Preston North End defender has six months left on his deal and has rejected the chance of an extension
Dominic King at The Mail has claimed that the move is expected to go ahead and Sepp van den Berg is thought to be heading the other way on loan.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool signing Ben Davies hints that more serious business will be done in the summer.
The Reds will likely move for one of their primary targets when the summer window opens and they have greater financial maneuverability.
Whilst we haven’t watched much of Davies we can expect that the Reds have done their due diligence, they don’t often get these moves wrong.
