Who is Duje Caleta-Car?
24-year-old Croatian centre back Duje Caleta-Car plays for Andre Villas Boas’ Marseille.
The defender joined the French side from Red Bull Salzburg in 2018.
Since then he’s impressed in Ligue 1 and last summer allegedly turned down a £22m move to West Ham in order to hold out for a Champions League side.
This term he’s made 18 starts and one sub appearance in the league for Marseille.
Liverpool move for Duje Caleta-Car
Given the lack of centre backs available to the Reds, the club are working to bring in reinforcements on deadline day.
A £2m deal for Ben Davies is expected to be tied up before the deadline passes.
Whilst The Mail has reported that Liverpool also want to sign Duje Caleta-Car.
The report states that the defender has agreed to join but Marseille are struggling to find a replacement.
The two clubs certainly don’t have long to work this one out with the deadline for any deals at 10pm tonight.

The move for Ben Davies feels like more of a stop gap but splashing some cash on the Croatian would seem like securing a longer term target.
The issue of Marseille sourcing a replacement could well scupper the transfer though and understandably so.
