Liverpool in dire need

The Reds have been without Virgil van Dijk since October.

Jürgen Klopp lost his other starting centre back a few weeks later when Joe Gomez picked up an injury at England training.

Since then Joel Matip has been in and out of the side with fitness issues.

Fabinho has been forced into action at the back for most of the campaign.

The Brazilian has found himself paired with Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips from the academy.

Raphinha, Coutinho and Tielemans: The signings Liverpool could make this summer

This weekend we saw Williams gift Man United a goal in a huge FA Cup tie, further illustrating that our backup options aren’t up to the monumental task.

Liverpool contact Sokratis

There has been a number of defenders linked with an Anfield move in recent months.

Some names come up more often than others, some pop up just once and are laughed off.

The latest report from The Athletic has claimed Liverpool contacted Sokratis Papastathopoulos last week.

The Reds allegedly checked in on the status of the 32-year-old following his release from Arsenal.

Talks apparently never advanced past this initial contact.

Sokratis is thought to be heading to Olympiakos instead.

Should the defender have joined the Reds he would’ve been reunited with Jürgen Klopp who signed him for Borussia Dortmund in 2013.

One Arsenal fan was shocked by the report.

At least we’re looking.

A couple of alternatives were suggested.
