Liverpool are in dire need of a centre back. The Reds have been down to just one senior centre half for most of the season and that is on a good day. Kopites have been pleading for the club to bring in a defender in January. According to The Athletic, Liverpool have contacted Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
Centre back necessity
Liverpool lost Virgil van Dijk for the season back in October.
The uninjurable centre back got injured. It was a bizarre moment.
Jordan Pickford went unpunished for his reckless lunge and our season was devastated.
Just weeks later the Reds also lost Joe Gomez to a similar injury.

Since then Joel Matip has been in and out of the side.
This weekend showed us just how necessary signing a centre back is when Rhys Williams cost us the game at Old Trafford.
The teenager shouldn’t be playing in those fixtures, we can’t even come close to blaming him.
Liverpool contact Sokratis
There have been dozens of names bandied about as potential signings.
The Reds have been linked with all and sundry in recent weeks and months yet nothing concrete has developed.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool contacted Sokratis Papastathopoulos last week about his status.
The Greek international is a free agent having been released by Arsenal.
However, talks are said to not have progressed past initial contact and the centre back is said to be joining Olympiakos.
What RTK has to say
This isn’t even a dodged bullet.
Liverpool signing Sokratis until the end of the season would’ve been a smart move.
We can’t play Joel Matip in every game and Sokratis has enough senior experience to fill in when needed so that we can manage Matip’s minutes.
At the moment we’ll take just about anyone even if it’s just until the end of the season. Just do something.
