Hansi Flick has talked with Dayot Upamecano over a potential move, according to reports. Liverpool may be running out of time.
Kicker claims that Hansi Flick has discussed a move with Dayot Upamecano. The Bayern Munich boss wants to bring the defender to Bavaria.
He’s got the opportunity to, as well. Everyone does. Upamecano has a release clause at the end of the season, which Kicker claims is around £40m.
The outlet also claims that at least four Champions League clubs want Upamecano. They name-drop Chelsea but don’t mention Liverpool.
For the Reds’ reported interest, we have to look elsewhere.
BILD’s Christian Falk claims Liverpool do want Upamecano, again mentioning Bayern and Chelsea. We can probably assume that the Reds are one of those four Champions League club’s from Kicker’s article, then.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool might be running out of time, here. It looks increasingly likely that Bayern are going all-out for Upamecano and this one may be practically wrapped-up before long.
Sport1 say they’re pushing for the move. The Athletic has said the same. Bayern are, quite clearly, the big players in this one.
But Liverpool do need a defender. They only have three and both Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk both turn 30 before long.
And that’s just the situation if you pretend there isn’t an overwhelming injury crisis at the heart of Liverpool’s defence. They badly need someone in the summer at the very least.
We believe Upamecano is far and away the best-value option in that case. Liverpool, surely, have to go for him.

But as Bayern tighten their grip, the Reds will struggle to get involved. They need to start swaying Upamecano’s attention their way and have to do it soon.
If they wait too long, they’ll lose out on their best option. And that would be a big blow.
