Liverpool don’t have any defenders

I cannot put it plainer than that.

Liverpool don’t have any centre backs that we can rely on.

Joel Matip is the last centre back standing at the club and we can’t play him twice in a week.

Virgil van Dijk was ruled out for the season back in October.

Joe Gomez’s knee injury came soon after during England training in November.

Since then Fabinho has filled in at the back alongside a parade of inexperienced youngsters.

Liverpool not buying

Despite the ongoing injury crisis the Reds haven’t bought a centre back in this transfer window.

All of the signs coming out of the club are that they don’t plan on investing this month.

Jürgen Klopp has hinted at his irritation with FSG when he said that the decision not to sign a centre back isn’t up to him.

Rhys Williams ammunition

This weekend Liverpool went crashing out of the FA Cup at Old Trafford.

The Reds showed massive signs of improvement on their recent performances.

Though at lot of these improvements can be chalked up to playing a team that actually wanted to play football.

The game essentially teetered on the Reds starting with an inexperienced teenager at centre back.

Rhys Williams’ mistakes have given Jürgen Klopp the perfect ammunition for a showdown with FSG.

The boss can meet with the owners and point to the youngster’s errors which highlight that we cannot rely on youth players who are out of their depth.

It is not Rhys Williams’ fault that he isn’t up to the task, he just isn’t ready yet. We need a centre back, the owners can’t ignore that any longer.
