Report: Jurgen Klopp’s methods leave Liverpool reluctant to sign

Liverpool are reluctant to sign anyone in January, according to reports. The principle reason comes down to Jurgen Klopp’s overall demands.

This comes from the Athletic. They claim that Liverpool are unlikely to sign anyone in January.

That doesn’t come down to ‘red tape’, however. None of their long-term targets are available for a reasonable price and that puts them off.

There’s the other option, of course – a quick fix. Someone who can come in for six months and help out.

But Liverpool are ‘reluctant’ to head in that direction, apparently. They believe Jurgen Klopp’s overall demands of his players make that a difficult option.

What RTK has to say

We completely agree. It’s something we talked about when discussing Eder Militao potentially joining on loan from Real Madrid.

The only players who jump straight into the Liverpool team are sure-things. Alisson did it, Virgil van Dijk did it and Mohamed Salah did it. We can add Thiago to that now, too.

But players with doubts over them tend to sit out for months. Fabinho, for instance, didn’t start a game in a 4-3-3 until the March after he arrived. We didn’t see him at all until nearly two months into the season.

Andy Robertson, too, didn’t have first-team football until the following December.

Klopp has very specific ways he likes players to do things in each position. If you’re capable of that from the off, then in you go.

But if you’re not, then Klopp won’t use you.

And if any of the quick-fixes were capable of it, they’d be a long-term target. It seems as simple as that. Liverpool would have to sign someone they have real doubts about and it could take that player months to adapt.

But the season ends in a few months, of course. The timing just doesn’t add up. If this were the summer window, then we’d almost certainly see movement.

As it is, Liverpool don’t appear to see any point in signing just for a stop gap.
