Liverpool failed to win at the weekend. Again. The Reds haven’t won in the Premier League this year, their last goal came on the 27th of December 2020. Despite the disappointing result there were a few positive takeaways. Jürgen Klopp has praised Xherdan Shaqiri for his performance against Man United.

Liverpool draw with Man United

Why did we expect anything other than a draw?

The North West Derby has thrown up draw after draw in recent years.

The Reds dominated the first half and played some good football but they faded after halftime.

Fans are still upset about the referee inexplicably blowing early for halftime when Sadio Mane was through on goal.

Alisson Becker pulled off some magnificent saves in the second half to keep the scores level but a point was a disappointing return.

Jürgen Klopp on Xherdan Shaqiri

The weekend saw Shaqiri in the starting lineup for the first time in over a year.

The Swiss international has been plagued by injuries but he’s finally fit and fighting.

Jürgen Klopp was full of praise for Xherdan Shaqiri, telling the official club site:

“Shaq is in a really good shape. He maybe could have played a little bit longer but I was not sure, it’s just a long time not playing.

“But he was really good, especially the first half an hour Shaq was really there. That helped massively. I was really happy about that.”

What RTK has to say

Jürgen Klopp must be buzzing to have Xherdan Shaqiri available.

The Swiss international can make things happen up top.

Had we faced a less stubborn low block then he may well have bagged an assist.

The Reds have been struggling in front of goal as of late but their struggles may be over if Shaq can string together a run of games.
