Liverpool might just smile at reported David Alaba to Real Madrid deal

Liverpool may afford themselves a smile as Real Madrid reportedly close a deal for David Alaba. It’s something that could come into play this summer.

The Guardian claims that Real Madrid and David Alaba have agreed to terms. It’ll be a four-year contract and, importantly, cost Real £204k-a-week after tax.

That’s a massive deal and one that Liverpool were never going to compete with.

It’s also relevant to future deals – that’s a very large contract, after all. So large that it’ll influence Real’s finances.

And those are already reportedly tight. Liverpool may just like what they see, then.

The great chase

The biggest possible move this summer is for Kylian Mbappe. And both Liverpool and Real Madrid reportedly want him.

AS reports that Real will have to sell quite a few players to fund any move. While it also says they’re ‘not concerned’ about salary demands, that was before closing such a huge contract with Alaba.

If money is tight, then that contract will affect things. There’s next to no chance that isn’t relevant.

Another AS report claims that Liverpool ‘have the funds’ to move for Mbappe, too. And maybe things just got easier.

Now, we’re not saying that Real can’t sign both. We believe they could. But having such a large contract on the books tightens their room for manoeuvring around Mbappe’s potential demands.

If salary was their strong suit, rather than having the transfer fee available, that strong suit just weakened a little.

And that benefits Liverpool in the chase. It might not be the biggest difference-maker in the world but this race will be tight and everything counts.

The excites us, along with every other Liverpool fan. Mbappe is the ultimate summer signing and one we hope the Reds can get over the line.
