Jamie Carragher doesn’t like what he’s seeing from Roberto Firmino. The Liverpool legend thinks Firmino could be on his way out.
Roberto Firmino isn’t playing too well at the moment. He’s not doing a lot of things he’s known for and his struggles were plain to see against Manchester United.
Firmino frequently made poor decisions and little to nothing came off for him. Most worrying of all, he simply didn’t see several opportunities to create chances for teammates.
Jamie Carragher is worried. The Liverpool legend detailed why on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, explaining that his concerns stretch over from last season.
“I must say, I am worried for Firmino,” said Carragher. “He’s never been seen as ‘the goalscorer’ but he’s there to chip in.
“And when they’re not scoring, he needs to be a bigger goal threat. Even yesterday [against United] he had a couple of chances, but wasn’t quite striking the ball right.
“Bringing players into the game has also dropped off and also, the counter-pressing and winning the ball back has dropped off.
“And not just this season. I’m actually going back to last season when Liverpool won the league.
“I was a little bit worried and then and thinking ‘can he turn it around this season’.”
Carragher went on to look into the stats, showcasing where Firmino has dropped off. The Scouser then wondered if this is a decline we’re seeing – a natural part of football, of course.

We’re concerned, too. Firmino just doesn’t look particularly sharp – something we wouldn’t have dreamt of saying two years ago.
But the Brazilian isn’t putting things together in a worrying way. Carragher’s right as there were questions over Firmino last season and we’re seeing even more in this campaign.
Obviously, given everything he’s achieved, Firmino deserves plenty more chances. But with a potentially crunch summer coming up, Liverpool could face the nightmare task of trying to replace him.
