‘Who said that?’: Jordan Henderson reacts to Manchester United take

Jordan Henderson reacted with surprise on hearing comments out of Manchester United. The Liverpool captain saw things very differently.

Liverpool drew 0-0 with Manchester United on Sunday – a disappointing result for both teams. The Reds had hoped to springboard out of their poor form, while their rivals wanted to make a serious title statement.

Instead, Manchester City probably benefitted the most from a stuttering draw. Neither team managed to do the final bit right, really, threatening from afar and messing it up nearer the goal.

United created the better chances, you’d say. Liverpool, though, had a series of fantastic opportunities but consistently lacked the final pass.

Sometimes the ball was just poor, other times they simply didn’t see the necessary option.

The mixed fortunes led to different takes from each camp. United appear to have seen this is two points dropped.

“I’ll be honest, the dressing room is very flat. It’s not what we wanted,” said Luke Shaw, per the Liverpool Echo.

“I’ve got to be honest and say I’m disappointed at the moment,” said Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, per Sky Sports.

Jordan Henderson was surprised when learning of the comments out of the Manchester United camp, however.

“They [United] felt they should have won it? Who said that?,” he said, again per the Echo. “Right. Interesting. I felt we should have won it. Performance level I thought was very good. I thought we played some brilliant stuff.

“Defended well as a team, and just lacked that little bit in the penalty box, that last little bit. But I thought we dominated the game for large parts of it.”

What RTK has to say

Now, to be fair, we’re not sure United are saying they should have won the game with their performance, reading their overall comments. They seem more disappointed with the result as the game was their for the taking, given Liverpool’s problems.

They went into the game wanting a win but didn’t do enough to deliver one.

So in that sense, everyone is right. Liverpool did play better on the day and just lacked a killer ball.

While United should be disappointed they didn’t win – they were up against a team without a proper centre-half. Of course they wanted a better result.

All in all, not too much to disagree with here.

On Henderson’s comments – he’s absolutely right. Liverpool defender remarkably well, given their limitations, and played some really nice stuff.

Yet again, though, the forwards let them down. There wasn’t enough in and around the box. Too many mistakes and not enough quality.

That’s got to change quickly.
