Liverpool fans are feeling a little worried at the moment. The Reds haven’t won in their last four league games and they’ve failed to score in the last three. It is a concern. However, we can look on the bright side. The last time Liverpool didn’t score in three successive league games they won the Champions League.
Winless, goalless Liverpool
Jürgen Klopp is in unfamiliar territory.
The Reds haven’t been in a run of form this poor for a while.
Liverpool haven’t won in their last four league games and haven’t scored in their last three.
In fact they haven’t netted in the league this year. The side’s last goal came on the 27th of December 2020.
This is a pretty bizarre run of form but one we’re confident they’ll turn around.
Liverpool goalless omen
The Reds haven’t scored in three and that is definitely a cause for concern.
However, Kopites can look at a positive omen that comes with this goalless streak.
James Pearce for The Athletic has highlighted that the last time Liverpool went three league games without a goal they won the Champions League.
In 2005 the Reds failed to score against Birmingham City, Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers.
Two months later Liverpool beat AC Milan on penalties to win the Champions League in dramatic fashion.
It’s not over yet
This omen shows us that these poor runs of form happen. They’re natural.
Sometimes you hit a rough patch where you aren’t at your best but you can come out of the other side swinging.
The Champions League is where the Reds thrive, we can still achieve European glory as long as the lads can keep their heads when it matters.
