Sport claims that Liverpool are considering a move for Adama Traore. Leeds United lead that ‘race’, while Manchester City are doing much the same as Liverpool.
The interesting thing, though, is the reported price: £36m. That’s a dramatic fall from talk of £135m back in the summer.
That’s a £100m price drop, then. And Liverpool could well see that as a bargain price.
What it would be is a price that helps them complete their reported plans. They’re plans that could revamp the entire team.
Grand plans
We’ve talked before about how exciting a prospect Traore could be at Liverpool. He’s exactly the type of player they work wonders with.
So we think £36m would be a great price for what you get. No, he’s not a finished article, but he has room to grow into a fantastic player.
Now, reports all over the place suggest that Liverpool are planning to sign big this summer. They all point to a squad revamp.
And if that is the case, securing a player like Traore for £36m would help immensely. That kind of price gets you a great talent but doesn’t use up all the cash.
We recently discussed, for instance, which superstar Liverpool should sign – Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, or Jadon Sancho?
Liverpool won’t afford two of them, of course. But Traore would give them a fantastic, promising winger alongside one of those three.
That’s something that would make these squad plans quite formidable. Liverpool could add a star and another winger who could become a star.
Whether Liverpool have space for both is another question. But if they moved on one of their forwards and wanted to replace Divock Origi, we think there’s just about room.
And Traore’s fee could be key to getting it all done.
