Liverpool have a number of bright young talents at the academy. The Reds have been steadily stacking the youth setup with wonderkids in recent years, hand picking some of the most promising teenagers from across the continent. There comes a point when these prospects need first team football. Some Liverpool fans have reacted to reports that Sepp van den Berg will leave on loan in January.
Van Den Berg wonderkid
Back in 2019, Sepp van den Berg was gaining quite a reputation for himself.
In the 2018/19 season the Dutch youngster broke the record for the youngest player to reach 10 appearances in the Eredivisie.
The centre back also featured in the division’s team of the week at just 16-years-old.
The youngster signed for Liverpool in the summer of 2019, arriving in the same window as Harvey Elliott.
Since then he’s made some appearances in the cups but he’s spent most of his time in the heart of the U23s defence.
Van den Berg loan
Now 19-years-old and impressing at the highest youth level, the Dutchman is ready for the next step in his career.
According to Goal, Sepp van den Berg is set for a loan move this January.
The Dutchman has reportedly held talks with three clubs via video call.
The clubs are from the 2. Bundesliga in Germany, the Belgian Pro League and the Swiss Super League.
Blackburn are also said to be interested in a move for the youngster, a decision is expected to be made in the next week.
Twitter reacts to report
Some fans support the idea.
Others are questioning the wisdom of letting a defender go when we’re so short of numbers.
The move could help him greatly.
And some are looking for any excuse…
