Liverpool fans are going to have a hard time forgetting this season’s Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park. The Reds were utterly robbed of three points due to two atrocious refereeing decisions. Months later Liverpool fans have reacted to Michael Oliver finally admitting he made a mistake in the game.
Calamitous Merseyside Derby
This season’s Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park was something of an early turning point for Liverpool.
The Reds were robbed of three points and two key stars.
Virgil van Dijk was ruled out for the season after Jordan PIckford lunged at his knees. The Everton keeper was inexplicably not sent off for the challenge.
Later on in the game Thiago was crunched by Richarlison; the Brazilian was sent off and our midfielder was sidelined for 10 weeks.
There was also a ridiculous offside decision which saw our late winner ruled out.
Overall it was a simply calamitous display from the officials.
Liverpool told Michael Oliver made mistake
Months after the debacle, Liverpool have been told by Michael Oliver that he got it wrong that day.
Oh, wow. What a surprise.
In an interview with The Mail, the referee admitted that the Everton keeper could and should have been sent off. The official said:
“We could still have given offside and sent Pickford off.
“We should have restarted with the offside, as we did, but with a different punishment for Jordan Pickford”.
Liverpool fans react
It’s too little too late for some fans.
Some fans are really annoyed.
The decision cost us a win.
