The Reds have already lost their starting centre back partnership for the rest of the season.

Virgil van Dijk was ruled out for the campaign after he ruptured his ACL in the Merseyside Derby.

Whilst Joe Gomez picked up a knee problem in England training.

Joel Matip was the latest to drop out when he limped off against West Brom.

It was subsequently reported that the Cameroonian would miss three weeks of action.

James Pearce has offered an optimistic Joel Matip injury update, telling the Red Agenda Podcast:

“[Matip] should be back…the hope is that he will be fit for the Man United game which is looming large on the horizon.”

What RTK has to say

This Joel Matip injury news is the best news we could hope for.

The Reds desperately need him back so that we can get some balance back into the side.

Whilst Jordan Henderson performed admirably at centre back we miss his presence in the midfield.

Matip is also an accomplished passer of the ball, crucial to our build up play.
