Joe Gomez injury recovery could impact next Liverpool signing - RTK view

Liverpool have had a shocking time of it with injuries this season. Jürgen Klopp has had to make do with makeshift options and youth players for the most part. We’re hoping to see some of our star defenders back before the end of the season. How Joe Gomez recovers from injury could determine the next major Liverpool signing.

Decimated defence

The Liverpool back four has been torn apart by injuries this season.

Virgil van Dijk has been the most decisive casualty, he was also the first to go.

The Dutchman ruptured his ACL in the Merseyside Derby thanks to a horror tackle from Jordan Pickford.

Joe Gomez wasn’t far behind him when he picked up a knee injury in England training.

Joel Matip has been in and out of the side with various issues whilst Trent Alexander-Arnold missed a month with a calf problem.

Liverpool need reinforcements

There’s no debating that the Reds need reinforcements at the back.

The club began the season with just three centre backs and the decision backfired massively.

We’ve now resorted to playing to centre midfielders at centre back with Fabinho and Jordan Henderson lining up together against Southampton.

There have been dozens of defenders linked with an Anfield switch but as of yet we’ve not seen any solid progress.

Joe Gomez injury recovery

Just who the Reds try to sign could determined on the Joe Gomez injury and how he recovers from it.

The Englishman has suffered with knee problems in the past.

He missed nearly a year with a cruciate injury when he first joined the club.

Having further knee problems could be a cause for concern.

Should he recover fully and the club have faith in his ability to stay fit then the Reds could opt for a relatively inexpensive, younger option in defence.

If the doctors believe that the Joe Gomez injury could plague him in future then Liverpool could go for a bigger buy, someone to partner Virgil van Dijk.

The next few months could prove quite telling in terms of our summer business.
