Liverpool haven’t had much luck at all this season. From contentious VAR decisions to injuries and illnesses, not much has gone our way. One of our most sickening blows came just before Christmas. Simon Hughes at The Athletic has pointed out that Jürgen Klopp made the wrong call playing Diogo Jota against Midtjylland.
Diogo Jota impact
When Liverpool signed Diogo Jota the move caught a lot of us off guard.
The Portuguese star hadn’t been linked with an Anfield move until within hours of his signing.
Things moved fast. We confirmed the Thiago deal and within hours we were rumoured to have agreed a £41m fee for Diogo Jota.
Since his arrival he has been a revelation.

The 24-year-old has netted huge goals against Atalanta, Arsenal and West Ham.
We haven’t seen the freshman since December after he picked up an injury against Midtjylland.
Jürgen Klopp got Diogo Jota call wrong
There have been many questions asked of Jürgen Klopp for his decision to play Diogo Jota against Midtjylland.
The game was a dead rubber, we’d already confirmed top spot and our opponents were confirmed at the bottom.
We lost a key player in a nothing game and we’re feeling the impact now.
Simon Hughes told the Red Agenda podcast that Klopp must be regretting the Jota decision:
“When he got injured after the Midtjylland game, Jürgen still hasn’t explained why he played him.
“It’s very puzzling really. He must surely regret playing him in a game of no sporting value.
“Liverpool are have missed him, it’s not allowed them to freshen up quite as much as they would’ve wanted.”
What RTK has to say
We all wondered why Klopp picked Jota for that game.
We had had enough injuries as it was and he was our man in form, the one to grab the goal.
Then boom. He’s gone right when we needed him.
The decision was a reckless one, there’s no two ways about it, it was a proud move.
Hopefully we won’t see the boss risking anymore players in dead rubbers in future.
