Report: Liverpool could pursue Maximilian Wober deal

Liverpool are in dire need of a centre back. We are down to the barest of bare bones at the back due to an unfortunate series of injuries. The Reds have managed to hold onto top spot despite the injury crisis but who knows how much longer than can go on for. The latest reported Liverpool target is Maximilian Wober.

Bare bones defence

Liverpool fans have managed to hold it together somewhat this term despite an avalanche of injuries.

Kopites have seen it all this season.

In October we had to watch Jordan Pickford rupture Virgil van Dijk’s ACL with a horror tackle in the Merseyside Derby.

Joe Gomez picked up a knee problem of his own in November.

The latest blow has seen Joel Matip sidelined by an abductor problem.

Fabinho is now holding down the fort alongside Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams.

Liverpool linked with Maximilian Wober

The Reds are, naturally, being linked with every talented centre back under the sun.

Eurosport have now suggested Liverpool could move for Maximilian Wober.

The 22-year-old Austrian centre back currently plays for Red Bull Salzburg.

He is capable of playing at left back and on either side of a centre back partnership.

What RTK has to say

Liverpool targeting Maximilian Wober makes a lot of sense.

He is of good footballing stock having spent two years at Ajax before joining Red Bull Salzburg by way of Sevilla.

The Reds have a successful history with Salzburg graduates having signed Sadio Mane, Naby Keita and Takumi Minamino.

He would also provide much needed balance being left footed.

We’ll be keeping an eye on this one, it makes plenty of sense.
