Alex McCarthy unavailable for Southampton v Liverpool

Liverpool make the trip to Southampton tonight desperate for a win. The Reds have gone two games without a win, a sequence of results we really aren’t accustomed to these days. The Reds will be hoping to set the record straight immediately. In a potentially game changing development, Alex McCarthy is unavailable for Southampton v Liverpool.

Liverpool poor run

Liverpool are without a win in their last two and for this side that constitutes a poor run of form.

The West Brom result we can chalk up to new manager bounce.

The visitors came to Anfield with a stubborn new gaffer, determined not to play football and instead content to try and grab a chance from a set piece.

The Newcastle game saw some tired legs denied by goalkeeping heroics.

The Geordies were determined in defence and the Reds were wasteful in front of goal.

Alex McCarthy absent for Southampton v Liverpool

Monday night’s hosts have been dealt a devastating blow.

Alex McCarthy is set to miss Southampton v Liverpool after testing positive for COVID-19.

HampshireLive reported the Saints’ manager’s comments on the absence:

“After the last round of tests, we have one positive case now with Alex McCarthy, so he’s out for the game on Monday and maybe also the Shrewsbury game, as he has to self-isolate for a period.”

What RTK has to say

Alex McCarthy missing the Liverpool clash is a potential game changer.

The goalkeeper has been in terrific form this season, often winning points on his own.

Without him the Saints will be feeling vulnerable coming up against one of the most lethal attacks in the world.

They are also likely to face quite a few chances given that Thiago could well be named in the starting lineup.
