Liverpool have been decimated by injuries this season but one absentee stands out from the crowd. Kopites are anxious to find out when their talismanic centre back will return to the fold. Netherlands boss Frank de Boer believes Virgil van Dijk will be fit for Euro 2021.
Van Dijk injury
Liverpool fans won’t forget this season’s Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park in a hurry.
The match will live on in infamy for its controversial decisions and devastating injuries.
The Reds were denied three points by two ludicrous decisions: a non-offside and a non-red card.
Early on in the game Virgil van Dijk was lunged at by Jordan Pickford.

Not only did we lose the Dutchman for the season with a ruptured ACL but the goalkeeper bizarrely wasn’t sent off for the tackle.
Frank de Boer on Virgil van Dijk
Netherlands boss Frank de Boer has spoken on Virgil van Dijk and his recovery.
The national team coach will be keeping a close eye on the defender’s progress with a major tournament on the horizon.
De Telegraaf quote the Orange boss as saying:
“[Van Dijk] is busy with so much energy. If you see what he’s doing… In my time you were only allowed to kick in the swimming pool.
“If Virgil doesn’t get a kick back and things go a little faster than expected, he should be able to make it to the European Championship opening match on 13th June against Ukraine.
“He is very important for our team, on and off the field.”
What RTK has to say
Frank de Boer is only looking at Virgil van Dijk as a Netherlands player here.
Kopites can expect the defender back much earlier than June.
He is making good progress. We can be optimistic.
I’m no physio but surely he’ll play again for the Reds this season; the man is a machine – he won’t let something as petty as a cruciate ligament keep him down.
