Liverpool have been incredibly unfortunate this season. Jürgen Klopp has suffered worse than most when it comes to availability issues. The boss has seen illness and injury decimate his side in the first half of the season. Thankfully we’re boss so we’re still top of the table. We could well resolve the defensive issues in January. Reports in Spain have claimed Liverpool are interested in signing Eder Militao.
Defensive shortages
Who would’ve thought that Joel Matip would be our last central defender standing in January?
The Reds started the season with just three centre backs after Dejan Lovren was sold to Zenit in the summer.
Since then Virgil van Dijk has ruptured his ACL in the Merseyside Derby and Joe Gomez has been ruled out for most of the season with a knee injury of his own.
Joel Matip has lined up alongside a parade of makeshift options and promising youngsters.
Many believe the Reds will look to bring in greater depth in January.
Liverpool linked with Eder Militao
The gossip pages this season have been dominated by the Reds and potential centre back candidates.
This week Todofichajes have linked Liverpool with a move for Eder Militao in January.
The 22-year-old centre back joined Real Madrid from Porto in 2019, the Spanish giants paying £43m for the Brazilian.
Since then he’s failed to establish himself in Zinedine Zidane’s defence.
The Brazilian has made just one league start this season.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool signing Eder Militao would make plenty of sense.
The Daily Mirror linked the Reds with the Brazilian before he joined Madrid.
Seeing as he’s failed to get any sort of regular game time in the Spanish capital he could be considering a move for the good of his career.
Anfield could be the ideal destination given our current frailties.
He is a good passer of the ball and a threat from set pieces, he is very much in the mould of a Liverpool centre back.
