"He's next": Daniel Sturridge striker drooling over Joe Gomez

Liverpool have been incredibly unlucky with injuries this season. Some players have had worse luck than others. One man in particular will be gutted to be out again with another long term injury. The star in question has been offered some encouragement. Daniel Sturridge has heaped praise on Joe Gomez.

Joe Gomez injury blow

Ok. I’ve got to take some responsibility here.

I completely jinxed Joe Gomez.

Liverpool were diving head first into an injury crisis in November as the league paused for an international break.

I wrote about how disastrous it’d be if Joe Gomez picked up an injury on England duty, just as he head in the November break of 2019.

Then, lo and behold, the defender suffered a serious knee injury in England training.

There is currently no return date set for the 23-year-old but it’s believed he could feature towards the end of the season.

Daniel Sturridge on Joe Gomez

Speaking on the Beautiful Game Podcast, ex-Liverpool and England striker Daniel Sturridge was full of praise for Joe Gomez.

Raphinha, Coutinho and Tielemans: The signings Liverpool could make this summer

Studge believes that his ex-teammate has everything it takes to make it to the top of the game, saying:

“I speak to Joey G, he’s going through an injury right now, and I’ll be like ‘don’t lose the faith, you’re a world-class player’.

“Training against Joe Gomez when I was at Liverpool, I was thinking ok, you’re strong, you’re fast, you’re not afraid to be dirty, you’ve got it all.

“You look at him and you think yeah he’s next. He’s going to be in that class you can see it, he’s going to be in that class down the line.”

What RTK has to say

Daniel Sturridge is right about Joe Gomez, he is nailed on to be a world class centre back.

The defender is just 23-years-old and he is already an integral part of a world beating defence.

As long as the Englishman can avoid any further long term injuries then the world is his oyster.

Not only does he have boundless potential but he has Virgil van Dijk alongside him to learn from.
