Trent Alexander-Arnold had a little dig at Jose Mourinho on Twitter after Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1. The right-back clearly couldn’t resist.
“I told [Jurgen Klopp] the best team lost. He disagreed but that’s his opinion,” said Jose Mourinho after the game.
That was the Tottenham Hotspur boss’s take after his team lost 2-1 at Anfield. He felt Spurs created the better chances and should have won the game.
“A draw would be a bad result in relation to the performance,” Mourinho had already said. “So you can imagine how we feel with a defeat.”
Now, Klopp isn’t the only one to disagree with that take. One of his players did, too.
Trent Alexander-Arnold took to Twitter to give his own opinion on the game and had a clear dig at Mourinho.
“The best team won,” he simply wrote, alongside a little emoji and a nice photo.
What RTK has to say
We agree, obviously. Liverpool controlled the game the way they wanted to and should have been out of sight by half-time.
They created good chances but simply couldn’t finish. Curtis Jones, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane all fired good opportunities straight at Hugo Lloris.
Yes, Spurs created some fantastic looks – arguably the best of the game, in truth – but the Reds created more. They just kept Spurs in the game with lacklustre finishing.
And all things considered, this was a fantastic performance from Liverpool. They had a defensive midfielder alongside a 19-year-old at the back, up against Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min.
Curtis Jones, too, was playing the biggest game of his career in midfield at just 19.
And Liverpool still won. It’s a huge result, given the lineup, and they were clearly the better team.
Spurs could have won it, make no mistake, but the Reds deserved their victory.
