Liverpool should be active in the January transfer window. The Reds could really do with some reinforcements. Otherwise the season could be something of a write off. Just who will arrive is a mystery. The latest update on reported Liverpool target Dayot Upamecano could suggest Michael Edwards is once again going for a less obvious target.

Liverpool need a centre back
At this moment. At this very moment. Liverpool are without a centre back.
The Reds started the season with three senior centre backs in the first team squad.
Since then Virgil van Dijk has ruptured his ACL.
Joe Gomez has done his knee in England training.
At the weekend Joel Matip suffered a back spasm, leaving the Reds with just kids available to play centre back.
Liverpool target Dayot Upamecano update
SportBild have been pushing the story that Liverpool are interested in Dayot Upamecano of RB Leipzig.
The publication claimed he’d cost the full £40m of his release clause.
There are thought to be a host of clubs interested in the talented 21-year-old Frenchman.
The Athletic has claimed that Bayern Munich are now the clear front runners for the defender’s signature.
According to David Ornstein, Manchester United and the German champions were the two main interested parties but the Red Devils’ interest has cooled.
The Frenchman is said to be interested in a move to the Bavarian giants.
Michael Edwards up to old tricks
We’ve seen time and again that Liverpool will get their transfers right whether they abide by rumours or not.
Over the summer we were crying out for depth up top.
The Reds were persistently linked with Ismaila Sarr.
Then out of nowhere Michael Edwards signed Diogo Jota, opting for the less obvious target.
We’ve seen this before when Liverpool brought in Fabinho.
Liverpool target Dayot Upamecano reportedly gearing up for a move to Bayern Munich could point to Michael Edwards repeating his old trick, working on bringing in a signing well out of left field.
Hopefully somebody somewhere is being lined up, we’re desperate for reinforcements.
