Liverpool can get Perr Schuurs cheaper

Every penny counts, particularly when recovering from the financial devastation of a global pandemic.

The Reds’ summer spending was curtailed by the lack of fans in the ground and the lack of certainty going forward.

Heavy losses were sustained this year, the club will want to scrimp and save where they can.

De Telegraaf reported that Perr Schuurs is available for £27m whilst Bild believes Dayot Upamecano will cost £40m.

This £13m can make a huge difference.

History with Schuurs

Liverpool took Perr Schuurs on trial whilst he was still at Fortuna Sittard.

The youngster went on to sign for Ajax but we can safely assume that the Reds have been tracking his progress every step of the way.

The club will have mountains of data on the defender, they’ll know his strong and weak points well enough, they’ll know what he needs to improve.

The fact that he came on trial in the past also indicates a willingness to join the club.

Right man, right time

Dayot Upamecano is considered to be the fifth best centre back in the world by ESPN FC.

Whereas Liverpool target Perr Schuurs is just beginning to make his mark on the European stage.

The 21-year-old will be more likely to accept a rotation role when Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk return to the squad.

There is also the consideration that he’d be learning under his countryman in Van Dijk.

The Reds’ talismanic centre back must be an idol for young Dutch defenders, Virgil can motivate and tutor Perr Schuurs.
