Liverpool had a typically impressive summer transfer window. The Reds were once again bringing in top players at bargain prices, signing stars whilst the world was looking the other way. One man could serve us well into the future; Thiago is the ideal teacher for Trent Alexander-Arnold should the Scouser make his long anticipated switch into midfield.
Liverpool sign Thiago
This summer was a magical one for Kopites.
All summer we were linked with a move for Thiago.
For a while it looked as though it was all just talk and we wouldn’t actually make the move.
Then it happened, it finally happened. Liverpool agreed a £20m deal for Thiago, bringing him in from Bayern Munich as a Champions League winner.
The deal was described by one Sky Sports pundit as the best he’s ever seen.
We’ve only caught glimpses of him since the move, illness and injury have kept him out of the side.
When he comes back we’ll be able to delight in his brilliance once more, though we may have to wait until January.
Alexander-Arnold playmaker
Before the arrival of Thiago we had Trent Alexander-Arnold as our primary playmaker.
The Scouser has redefined the role of a right back in the past few years.
His range of passing and his vision have made him the Reds go to string puller.
He’s been raking passes all over the pitch, carving defences open and asserting himself as the best right back in the world bar none.
Such is his ability on the ball, many believe his future lies in midfield.
Thiago and Trent Alexander-Arnold
Should he make the switch then Thiago is the ideal teacher for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Spaniard has been one of the world’s best deep playmakers for some years now.
The Scouser could learn a trick or two from the ex-Bayern man as he adapts his game.
Positioning, getting out of tight areas and when to fire the ball between the lines are all nuances that Trent could learn from his senior.
When the Spaniard packs it in, he could well be replaced by the young Scouser – he just needs to prepare him first.
