Liverpool are in dire need of a defender. The Reds have been ravaged by injuries in recent weeks and months. Jürgen Klopp is having to cobble together a defence using teenagers and midfielders at the moment. Many believe the Reds could move as early as January. Liverpool should use Divock Origi to sign Dayot Upamecano.

Dire need of a centre back

Many thought that going into this season with just three first team centre backs was risky.

The gamble backfired within weeks when Virgil van Dijk ruptured his ACL in the Merseyside Derby.

Joe Gomez soon followed suit when he picked up a knee problem of his own in England training.

Joel Matip is now the last senior centre back standing. He isn’t a bad option to have but we are having to drag Fabinho back into the back four to make up the numbers.

Another centre back is desperately needed.

Liverpool and Dayot Upamecano

Liverpool have been persistently linked with a move for Dayot Upamecano.

The 22-year-old Frenchman is one of the most highly rated young defenders in the world.

ESPN has ranked him as the fifth best centre back in the sport.

SportBILD recently claimed that Liverpool could trigger the defender’s £40m release clause.

Divock Origi in the Dayot Upamecano deal

Liverpool should use Divock Origi in the Dayot Upamecano deal.

The Reds need to offload the 25-year-old, signed from Lille for £10m.

RB Leipzig are in dire need of a young, pacy striker.

The German side lined up against Man United with Dani Olmo operating as a centre forward, arguably further up the field than he’s meant to be.

Origi would suit Leipzig down to the ground: he’s still relatively young, he’s got bags of pace and he’s drilled in intense pressing.

Using the Belgian in the deal for the 22-year-old Frenchman could save Liverpool some money.
