Alan Shearer has joined the praise for Liverpool’s Fabinho after the player put in a fine performance against Wolves. The Brazilian is shining for the Reds.
Monday evening saw Garth Crooks hail Fabinho after his display at the weekend. The player once again performed as a centre-half and kept a very pacy Wolves attack at bay.
The BBC pundit put the Brazilian in his Team of the Week and went as far as saying he was adequately replacing Virgil van Dijk. That’s something we consider an impossible task.
As for ourselves, we gave Fabinho a 9 out of 10 in our player ratings – he really was excellent.
And now Alan Shearer has joined in on the praise for Fabinho against Wolves.
The Premier League legend included Fabinho in his own Team of the Week. He was the only Liverpool player who made it in, in fact.
“Wolves have such pace on the break, and the Brazilian had Adama Traore running down his side, but his 1v1 defending was superb,” Shearer wrote about Fabinho.
What RTK has to say
It’s all quite remarkable, in truth. Fabinho is playing at an elite level while out of position – how many players could pull that off? Liverpool paid £39m to get him as a defensive midfielder, after all.
Let alone doing it as Van Dijk’s replacement. And alongside Joel Matip, who is only the third-choice himself.
But right now, Fabinho and Matip look capable of delivering the Premier League title. They’ve displayed the quality – they just need the consistency.
For Matip, that means staying fit. Fabinho has bigger question marks, of course, with his own biggest test coming against Tottenham Hotspur this month.

But with the way he’s playing, we’d back him to keep even Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min quiet.
Fabinho really is playing that well.
