Garth Crooks feels Fabinho is playing wonderfully at the moment. He even suggests he’s pulled off a task we believe is impossible.
Fabinho is certainly impressing Garth Crooks right now. The Brazilian had another great game as Liverpool beat Wolves.
We gave the Brazilian a nine out of ten in our player ratings. Fabinho did make one mistake, diving in for an ill-judged challenge on Adama Traore, but he was fantastic otherwise.
It’s the latest in an ever-growing list of wonderful performances at centre-half. Fabinho, naturally a holding midfielder, has slotted into the role and looks more and more natural with every game.
As a result, Crooks believes he ‘can play anywhere’.
“One player I was impressed with, however, was Liverpool’s Fabinho,” Crooks wrote. “The Brazilian can play anywhere.
“Currently he’s playing at centre-back and the way he’s playing, Virgil van Dijk can take as long as he likes to recover from his knee injury.”

As far as we’re concerned that last part should be impossible. Van Dijk is the world’s best centre-half – by some distance – and Liverpool should want him back desperately.
But in truth, the Joel Matip/Fabinho partnership is working really well. The latter, a £39m signing from AS Monaco, has made the left-sided role his own.
That’s usually Van Dijk’s, of course, but when you’re winning 4-0 against Wolves with Fabinho, there really isn’t the same rush to have the Dutchman back.
Which is nothing short of magnificent. Liverpool don’t have to worry about missing out on the title right now. There’s no immediate need to take any chance on Van Dijk’s injury.
Fabinho is saving the situation – and he deserves all the praise in the world for that.
