Jurgen Klopp says his Liverpool players tackled a problem against Wolves ‘exceptionally well’. The Reds boss enjoyed that aspect of the performance above anything.
Liverpool played really well against Wolves – despite one problem. Jurgen Klopp admits that he really had no idea how their opponents would lineup.
“You prepare for Wolves, which is difficult anyway, and you don’t know which system they will play,” he said, per Liverpoolfc.com. “You see the line-up and we still don’t know which system they will play because [Leander] Dendoncker usually played against us, I think in the last game, in the last line, [but] today he played in midfield.
“We are not too detail-obsessed, but we are in the details. You think, ‘OK, what can I tell the players? Be prepared for five in the back?’ and then there is four in the back and stuff like this.”
Klopp went on to say that this was the aspect of the win he liked above anything else.
“The boys adapted just exceptionally well and used our formation in a really good manner, played in the space we had to play – that’s what I enjoyed the most,” he said.

Klopp’s definitely right on this – it’s always an issue when you’re up against a team that can play multiple systems. Let alone one with players as good as Wolves.
But you can actually go further with it. Wolves were without Raul Jimenez and that made their attack an unknown, too.
Now, it was fairly obvious that they would have to attack space in behind with the pace they’ve got. We predicted that and as it turned out, Klopp had a plan for it.
Still, it was another unknown that made this game particularly tricky to plan for.
So we can add that to the reasons why it was so impressive. Liverpool played a very good Wolves side off the park on Sunday – and that’s no small feat.
