Harvey Elliott scored an excellent goal for Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday evening. It’s exactly what Liverpool will have wanted to see.
Harvey Elliott stole the show with his goal for Blackburn Rovers. The 17-year-old came onto the ball inside the corner of the box before curling a first-time effort into the far corner.
It’s a special goal – one that Rovers labelled ‘sensational’ – and the latest sign that Elliott is developing excellently while on-loan with Blackburn. It’s his second goal of the season to go along with three assists there.
But really, the goal means more than that. It’s exactly what Liverpool will have wanted to see this season.
Successor
If Elliott makes it at Anfield, it’ll be on that right-wing. That puts him in a very specific place as Mohamed Salah’s successor.
That’s exactly what Liverpool will want him to be long-term. Someone who can some in and offer a very similar production to what they’ve got right now.
There’s no reason to change things drastically, after all, especially as there are players in the first-XI who will stick around far longer than Salah.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold as good as he is at right-back, for instance, Liverpool won’t want to change the system and hurt his game. Thus whoever plays at right-wing, they’ll want him to play a similar style to Salah.
That gets the best out of Alexander-Arnold, after all. If Liverpool changed to an out-and-out wide man on that side, for example, he’d get in the way of the Scouser.
So Elliott scoring a goal that is so Salah-esque is a simply wonderful sign. This is the player Liverpool will want him to be – someone who wants to cut in from the flank and attack the goal.

Not only is Elliott displaying that style but he’s showing he can do it well at just 17. More goals like this and he’ll certainly have a bright future with Liverpool.
