Perr Schuurs issues response to reported Liverpool interest

Liverpool are more than likely to sign a defender in the January transfer window. Following a series of unfortunate injuries the boss has been left with little option but to turn to the transfer market. Perr Schuurs has issued a response to reported interest from Liverpool.

Liverpool short handed

Virgil van Dijk is out for the rest of the season with a ruptured ACL.

Joe Gomez is unlikely to play again this term with a knee injury of his own.

Jürgen Klopp has just Joel Matip left standing in the centre of defence and as a result should be looking for reinforcements.

At the minute Nat Phillips, Fabinho and Rhys Williams are rotating in and out of the back line but this a far from ideal approach.

Perr Schuurs on Liverpool interest

Liverpool have been persistently linked with a move for Perr Schuurs of Ajax.

De Telegraaf has claimed that the Dutch side would do business ‘immediately’ at £27m.

Perr Schuurs has issued a response to the repeated Liverpool interest, telling VoetbalZone:

“You know that’s going to happen when you play at Ajax.

“But I would like to play here, for this club (Ajax) and my focus is here to win with Ajax. I’d like to play for a few more years at Ajax.

“I am very confident in myself with my development; first a year at Jong Ajax, then a year more at Ajax 1 and now hopefully a whole season.

“That’s the line I was hoping for and Ajax too. Hopefully I can pull it through.”

What RTK has to say

A very diplomatic response from Perr Schuurs in light of the Liverpool interest.

The Dutchman has a sensible head on his shoulders.

He has shown he is loyal, mature and unprepared to be drawn into controversial headlines.

Despite what he’s said in the press, we can expect him to be interested in a move should the Reds have a bid accepted – would a young Dutch defender really turn down playing with Virgil van Dijk?
