A report describes Jordan Henderson as ‘ready to go’ after a moment in training. The Liverpool captain could return against Brighton on Saturday.

Jordan Henderson is back in training. The Liverpool captain missed the Reds’ last two games after an injury picked up on England duty.

And while Liverpool didn’t need him against Leicester City, Henderson certainly could have made a difference in the flat performance at home to Atalanta.

So everyone will be happy to have him back – if he proves his fitness ahead of Saturday’s game against Brighton. But that sounds very possible, going off a new report.

The Liverpool Echo describes a moment in training that shows Henderson looks ‘ready to go’.

“During a warm-up game, Henderson is paired with Jake Cain in a race to the yellow pole,” says the outlet.

“Who wins? Hendo, of course. The captain is back – and with a smile on his face.

“He looks ready to go after returning from injury.”

What RTK has to say

As we said, Henderson still needs to prove his fitness. This is how he does it, though. He needs to show he can deliver the same drive and energy as he does at his best.

Henderson isn’t a player Liverpool will risk, after all. He’s had too many injury problems over the last couple of years.

The very busy December period means Liverpool will want Henderson fit as often as possible and can’t have him injuring himself again and missing several more games.

So waiting an extra game to limit the risk does make sense. We’re hoping, though, that’s the reason why he didn’t play against Atalanta – that Liverpool wanted to give him more time away than necessary.

It sounds like the £20m man is back, though – and that’s nothing but great news.
