Liverpool fans don’t half have to put up with some stick online. Not so long ago we were being told we were deluded for insisting that we were on the cusp of greatness. Then we delivered. Recently I found myself defending our skipper against those who underrate him. Footage of Jordan Henderson v Atalanta shows why is world class, proving Darren Bent wrong after all.

Darren Bent on Jordan Henderson

Speaking recently on talkSPORT, Darren Bent claimed that Jordan Henderson isn’t world class.

The ex-Spurs forward believes the midfielder is a good player but isn’t the top echelon of the sport, telling the show:

“I wouldn’t have Jordan as world-class. I think there is a little bit of a difference between influential players because that’s certainly what he is.

“He’s a leader for Liverpool, the way he plays, the way he presses, the way he works hard and drives his team on. I think there is a difference between influential and world-class.

“Jordan did fantastic for Liverpool, he’s their captain and their leader, but [comparing him] with Roy Keane? The guy won seven Premier League titles or something crazy like that.”

Jordan Henderson v Atalanta

This week Liverpool tweeted out a video of Jordan Henderson v Atalanta and the skipper was running the show.

The video highlights just how influential and how good of a leader the captain his.

Throughout the footage he is heard barking orders and encouragement at his teammates.

The skipper put in a sterling display along with his strong communication throughout the game.

The fact that the captain was central to the performance and we went on to win 5-0 goes some way to showing how being influential can make you world class.

Isn’t that what world class players do: influence? Don’t world class players win games? Jordan Henderson certainly influenced our win over Atalanta.
