Liverpool waltzed to victory at Anfield this weekend. The Reds were in control throughout as they put themselves joint top of the table on points with an impressive win over Leicester City. One lesser mentioned talking point about the game can be found on the bench. This weekend Jürgen Klopp hinted Leighton Clarkson could be edging closer to a first team opportunity.

Liverpool cruise to victory
The Reds headed into the game on Sunday with rival fans licking their lips, thinking this game could finally put an end to the Reds’ unbeaten run at home.
However, Jürgen Klopp’s men pulled out one of their trademark professional performances to cruise to a 3-0 victory.
Jonny Evans nodded home the first goal, Diogo Jota headed in the second and Roberto Firmino lept higher than anybody for the third.
Jürgen Klopp names Leighton Clarkson
One minor talking point from the game which has long term implications is Jürgen Klopp naming Leighton Clarkson in the matchday squad.
The youngster is said to have been a late addition to the squad after Xherdan Shaqiri was ruled out with a minor fitness issue.
This isn’t the first time that the youngster has been in the Reds’ first team squad this season, he has been a regular feature on the bench in the Champions League.
Clarkson edging closer
The fact that the 19-year-old was named on the bench at the weekend could be a subtle hint that the teenager could be afforded an opportunity or two in the near future.
Clarkson has appeared for the Reds in both cups but is yet to feature in the Premier League or Champions League.
Given the pile up of fixtures and the paper thin squad at the minute, we could well see the centre midfielder given the nod sooner rather than later.
The Reds are close to wrapping up their Champions League group – when that matter is settled the teenager could be used to save legs in the first XI.
