Liverpool have been linked with a million defenders in recent weeks and months and we’ll be linked with a million more before the January transfer window. Malick Thiaw has responded to the persistent Liverpool transfer links surrounding him.
Liverpool hunt for a centre back
The Reds started this season with just three centre backs in the first team.
Since then we’ve seen the starting partnership ruled out for pretty much the entirety of the season.
Virgil van Dijk lost his ACL in a tragic Jordan Pickford accident during the Merseyside Derby.
Whilst Joe Gomez suffered a knee injury during England training, though there’s a chance he could play again this term, we won’t be holding our breath.
As a result there’s only Joel Matip left standing, leading many to believe that signing a centre back in January will be a priority for the Reds.
Malick Thiaw and Liverpool
Malick Thiaw has been linked with Liverpool for months and months now.
The 19-year-old Schalke centre back has been impressing with his limited minutes in the Bundesliga side’s first team, scoring once in his two appearances this term.
90Min reported back in March that the Reds were considering paying his £7m release clause.
Speaking to Schalke TV, Malick Thiaw commented on interest from the likes of Liverpool, saying:
“Of course you’re happy when big clubs are after you, but it was actually clear to me that I would stay at Schalke.”
What RTK has to say
Not quite a come and get me plea but it’s enough for us to mull over.
Malick Thiaw seemingly wouldn’t turn down a Liverpool move given how pleased he was with the Reds’ interest.
Whether or not Jürgen Klopp’s side will move for the youngster remains to be seen, if his release clause is in fact £7m then he could be an ideal option given his age.
