Liverpool are in the midst of a defensive crisis. The Reds injury list keeps getting added to and the list of potential targets keeps growing alongside. A January move seems inevitable, the question is who will arrive on New Year’s Day? According to reports in Greece, Liverpool are targeting Ruben Semedo of Olympiakos.
Liverpool injury crisis
The Reds haven’t seen anything like this before and we likely won’t see anything like it again for some time.
This injury pile up has been the stuff of nightmares.
Since the start of the season Jürgen Klopp has lost 13 first team players to injury at one time or another.
The centre of defence has been the worst hit area. Joel Matip has missed most of this season with a muscle problem.
Whilst Virgil van Dijk was ruled out for the season with a ruptured ACL – sustained due to a reckless lunge from Jordan Pickford.
Since then we’ve lost Fabinho to a hamstring issue and Joe Gomez is out for most of the season with his own knee injury.
Liverpool target Ruben Semedo
Greek outlet Athena has claimed Liverpool are chasing Ruben Semedo of Olympiakos.
The Reds are thought to be weighing up a January move for the 26-year-old Portuguese defender.
He has made 12 appearances in all competitions for the Greek outfit this season, his club are said to be asking for £18m for the defender.
Athena also claims that Liverpool would offer Ruben Semedo a five-year-deal.
What RTK has to say
We can’t pretend that we know much about this lad but for the money he doesn’t seem like a sensible target.
Given that Perr Schuurs isn’t been touted as much more expensive Liverpool signing Ruben Semedo would be an odd move.
Schuurs is being touted as a £27m target, he is six years younger than Semedo and has been attracting attention from across Europe with his performances.
We can’t see much truth in Liverpool links to Ruben Semedo.
