Jürgen Klopp has insisted “it was a foul” in response to Mo Salah critics

Liverpool just about got over the line at the weekend. Once again, Jürgen Klopp’s side showed their dogged determination and edged a victory in a close run affair. The game had a few talking points but one has dominated the conversation since the game – the penalty. Jürgen Klopp has responded to criticism of Mo Salah after the incident.

Before halftime parity was restored when Mo Salah won and converted a penalty.

It took two second half substitutes to win the game for Jürgen Klopp, Xherdan Shaqiri and Diogo Jota combining for the winner.

Klopp on Salah criticism

After the game there was some bizarre criticism for the Reds’ Egyptian King. The winger was lambasted for the way he went down, with many Kopites pointing out that English players aren’t treated so harshly for their actions.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Jürgen Klopp responded to the Mo Salah critics, saying:

“It was a foul. Believe it or not, yesterday I spoke to Mo about how he feels. He has three proper knocks on the foot and one of them is from the penalty situation. There was clear contact. No, I don’t understand the criticism.”

Arthur Masuaku tried to kick the ball away from Mo, the winger got in the way and was kicked instead. That is a foul.

It may not have been enough to send him sprawling but it was a foul. He had to go down to get the penalty he was entitled to.

It is not the winger’s fault that refs have to see someone fall before they’ll have the guts to give a foul.

The fact that Harry Kane didn’t receive the same treatment from some pundits the next day was a disgrace. Jürgen Klopp is totally spot on with his defence of Mo Salah.
