Liverpool have had a rollercoaster start to the season. We’ve seen some world beating performances, some just about good enough ones and a mountain of injuries. Despite everything, the Reds are still leading the league. Jürgen Klopp has explained why Liverpool are still top.

Challenges faced
Jürgen Klopp has faced a number of difficult challenges this season, more than many other managers in fact.
Let’s deal with injuries first shall we? The boss has lost Virgil van Dijk for the season and is currently without Fabinho for an undetermined length of time.
Alisson, Thiago, Joel Matip, Jordan Henderson and Joe Gomez have also all had spells on the sidelines – to name just a handful.
We’ve also seen Thiago, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita ruled out by positive COVID-19 tests.
Furthermore, the Reds have dealt with a number of horrific refereeing decisions; Jordan Pickford wasn’t sent off in the Derby, our winner was ruled out in the same game and then Fabinho had a penalty awarded against him despite winning the ball outside of the box.
Klopp on Liverpool success
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Jürgen Klopp explained why Liverpool are still leading the league despite all of the hurdles they’ve had to overcome. The boss said:
“We knew that before we experienced it and now we are in it. So it’s really a tough challenge but it’s possible to get through it when the players are fighting the circumstances, like our boys do constantly.
“It’s not about having everybody available, playing your best football, being in the best mood, best atmosphere – all these kind of things.
“Football is about performing on the rainy days, on stormy days, in the dark nights and all these kind of things. That’s what the boys do and we enjoy it so far.”
What RTK has to say
What Jürgen Klopp is saying is that Liverpool are playing like champions – as Gary Neville pointed out.
The Reds are doing just enough to get over the line, even when the odds are stacked against them.
Even when the weather is awful, the officials are looking the other way and our best players are on the treatment table, the Reds are still performing on these rainy days.
Long may it continue.
