Report: Liverpool open £20m talks over Ozan Kabak

Liverpool are going to make a signing in January. Whenever they say that they’re still debating it, don’t believe them. They have no option but to sign a centre back in the coming transfer window. According to reports, Liverpool are trying to sign Ozan Kabak and have opened up £20m talks with Schalke.

Van Dijk injury

Liverpool need a new centre back in January because they are down to two senior centre backs for the remainder of the season.

Of those two senior centre backs, only one is currently fit with Joel Matip sidelined by a muscle problem.

The Reds lost Virgil van Dijk for the season after he was crunched by Jordan Pickford in the Merseyside Derby.

The Everton keeper was remarkably not red carded for the reckless lunge – adding further insult to the season ending injury.

Liverpool and Ozan Kabak

According to The Mirror, Liverpool are looking to sign Ozan Kabak in January.

The Reds have reportedly opened negotiations with Schalke and are hoping to pay an initial £20m for the young Turkish centre back.

The Bundesliga side are said to have valued the defender at £40m before the pandemic impacted football finances.

At the minute Schalke are thought to be holding out for £30m, though the Reds could come near that figure with clauses and bonuses.

What RTK has to say

Kabak is certainly a strong candidate, he fits the profile given that he is just 20-years-old.

He would also be keen on the move given that, as per the Bundesliga site, he has previously said that he wants to “be a top player like Virgil van Dijk.”

£20m wouldn’t be an awful fee for such a talented youngster but we feel that Dayot Upamecano will still be the front runner for the Reds given his imperious ability when in possession.
