The Dutchman was ruled out for the season with an ACL injury after Jordan Pickford recklessly flew in at the Dutchman’s knees in the Merseyside Derby.
Inexplicably, the goalkeeper was allowed to remain on the field after VAR David Coote reportedly forgot that he could send the shot stopper off, thinking the offside flag nullified anything afterwards.
Thiago and Matip unlikely for Ajax game
According to Paul Joyce, Thiago and Joel Matip are unlikely to travel to the Ajax game.
Thiago is still recovering from a thuggish challenge from Richarlison after the Brazilian petulantly flew in at the Spaniard late on in the Derby.
Matip on the other hand has a muscle problem, he has been struggling with injuries in the past year and a bit, having played a full 90 minutes against the Ev he was unlikely to come out of the tie without any issues.
