Mega Merseyside Derby

Before the international break Liverpool fell to a humiliating defeat at Villa Park.

The Reds were thoroughly hammered when they turned up expecting to go level with noisy neighbours Everton at the top of the table.

The Ev on the other hand have had their best start to a season in decades, winning all of their opening games in the Premier League.

Jürgen Klopp’s side are three points adrift of the Toffees going into the game, a massive win for the Reds will see them return to top spot.

Emile Heskey on Thiago

In an exclusive interview with Rousing the Kop, we asked Emile Heskey how important he thinks Thiago Alcantara could be to the Merseyside Derby. The ex-Anfield striker told us:

“Thiago will be very significant. He’ll be there slowing things down, speeding things up when it needs to be sped up.

“At times when I was looking at the Villa game, everything was just so frantic. They needed someone to just calm it down, let’s get a few passes in then break, then attack.

“He’s got that in abundance. He’s come from that Barca school that really works on that stuff.

What RTK has to say

If we’re going to beat the Ev then we need to stop their key men getting on the ball. If we want to stop their key men from getting on the ball then we need to keep it ourselves.

Thiago will be crucial to keeping the ball against Everton. The Reds midfielder is master of breaking the press and picking a pass, he’ll need to be at his best at the weekend.

The Spaniard will be getting something of a baptism of fire when he steps into this game, it’ll be intense, it’ll be nasty. It’ll be his time to shine.
