Liverpool have a world class squad at the minute. There are no weak spots in the starting XI, to a man they can all claim to be among the best in the world in their position. Our right back isn’t just one of the best right backs in the world, he’s completely revolutionised the position. Speaking to TBR Football, Emile Heskey gave his view on whether Trent Alexander-Arnold should be playing centre midfield for England.

The right back brigade

At the minute England have an embarrassment of riches at right back.

Gareth Southgate has an armada of right sided defenders to choose from and a decent portion of them have a long way to go in their careers.

There is: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, Reece James, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tariq Lamptey to name just a few of the right backs worthy of consideration for England.

Emile Heskey on Alexander-Arnold

Given that there are so many right back options and Trent is so impressive with his passing range, TBR Football asked Emile Heskey whether Trent Alexander-Arnold should switch to centre midfield for England.

The former Reds striker answered:

“I know Trent played centre mid before. He’s got the ability to play in there but I can’t see that happeningt o be honest with you.

“I can’t see why he’d want to when you’ve got this abundance of midfielders playing in there ahead of your own dominant midfielders. So no, I can’t see that happening.

“What I will say is that Trent is better in a back four than as a wing back, you see the best out of him in there.”

What RTK has to say

We’d personally love to see Trent in the middle for England.

Can we pretend that the current centre midfielders are doing a better job? At the minute Southgate seems intent on playing Declan Rice in the middle but he doesn’t offer anywhere near the same creativity as Trent.

Having said that the Scouser would see a lot more of the ball at right back and that could be key to getting the best out of him.
