Liverpool have one of the strongest academy sides around, as well as one of the most successful recruitment teams. The two could combine in the near future to help the Reds dominate. If reports are correct then Liverpool could pair countrymen Dayot Upamecano and Billy Koumetio together in future.
Liverpool linked with Upamecano
Sport BILD has claimed in recent days that Liverpool could move for Dayot Upamecano next summer.
The Frenchman is said to have a £36.5m release clause having signed a new deal this year when he was linked with a move away.
The 21-year-old centre back is claimed to be wanted by the Reds as well as both Manchester clubs.
Over the summer Kopites began getting excited about academy prospect Billy Koumetio.
The 17-year-old centre back joined the first team at their Austrian training camp and he put in some impressive displays in pre-season friendlies.
Since then Pep Lijnders has referred to him as a ‘proper talent’ and others have suggested that he could be the fourth choice centre back for the season.
Whatever his role during this campaign, he is sure to figure in the first team in the coming years.
Koumetio and Upamecano pairing
If Liverpool did sign RB Leipzig’s prize asset next summer then we could see Billy Koumetio and Dayot Upamecano line up alongside each other in the near future.
Both French, both young and both centre backs they could make an almighty pairing.
Should Upamecano come in then he’d be paired with Virgil van Dijk initially but as Koumetio gains maturity and experience then we would likely see him graduate into a first team role in his early 20s.
The Reds would certainly benefit from having two centre backs lining up together for club and country, fans can only dream for now. Maybe next summer we’ll have a clearer idea.
