Koumetio at Anfield

Liverpool signed Koumetio from Orleans FC in France back in 2018.

The towering 17-year-old centre back has already been capped at youth level by France.

Kopites began to get excited about the youngster over the summer when he took part in the club’s pre-season training camp in Austria.

After a few promising appearances in friendlies there was even talk of him being the fourth choice centre back for this season.

Pep Lijnders on Koumetio

Pep Lijnders is clearly a fan of Billy Koumetio, he recently described the youngster as a ‘proper talent’.

The Dutchman has once again been singing the French wonderkid’s praises, Lijnders told his pre-match press conference:

“Billy has a clear pathway inside our club. He is just at the start of this pathway. He had an unbelievable season in the U18s last year, he is part of our squad and his development has been massive.

“He is so humble and so full of potential, but he has his own process, his own objectives. The reason he played only 60 minutes in the U18s game at the weekend was due to medical reasons, so we have to look to see how he is, but we’re really happy he is part of our team.”

What RTK has to say

Pep Lijnders doesn’t half get excited about Billy Koumetio, Liverpool fans have every right to be buzzing about this youngster.

The Frenchman is tipped to make some senior appearances this season, most likely in the cups.

Whether or not we see Koumetio against Arsenal this week could tell us a lot about how far along in his development the Reds coaching staff believe the youngster is.
