Adrian will reportedly start in goal for Liverpool against Aston Villa today. Here’s a look at the Reds’ Premier League record with the Spaniard.
The Athletic’s James Pearce tweeted that Alisson will miss Liverpool’s clash with Aston Villa. The Brazilian picked up an injury in training and won’t play – you can read our initial thoughts on that here.
Instead, Adrian will step in to face Aston Villa. He’s the backup goalkeeper, after all, and we’ve seen him do it before when Alisson is injured.
But just how do Liverpool fare with Adrian in goal? We have a look at his Premier League record.
Good and bad
Adrian’s record is actually quite bizarre. It’s simultaneously perfect and worrying – so it’s hard to know what to think.
Going from PremierLeague.com, Adrian has started 11 Premier League games for Liverpool. In that time, the team conceded 10 goals, which is a pretty poor showing.
In fact, Adrian has kept just two clean sheets in those 11 games. Alisson has kept 35 clean sheets in 70 games, for comparison – that 1-in-2 record below Adrian out of the water.
Errors, too, don’t look great for the Spaniard. He’s made two errors leading to goals in those 11 games. Alisson has made four in 70.
So from that, you’d think Adrian has been pretty woeful for Liverpool. But one record stands out above all the others – Liverpool have won all 11 games Adrian has played in goal.
Alisson’s record is 56 wins from 70, which is truly remarkable, but not literally 100%. Now, obviously, Liverpool are better with Alisson in goal. But it still stands that they fare just fine with Adrian, even if he’s not keeping the sheets clean.
