Alisson Becker is out of Liverpool’s meeting with Aston Villa, according to reports. Adrian will step up once again to take his place.
The Athletic’s James Pearce tweeted the news ahead of the game today. Alisson will miss the game with Aston Villa after ‘picking up an injury in training’.
As expected, Adrian will supposedly step up to vill the void. It will be the 33-year-old’s 12 Premier League game for Liverpool after he spent a significant spell between the sticks last year.
Liverpool are already without first-team players today, of course. Sadio Mane and Thiago are both out, while Jordan Henderson will face a late fitness test.
What RTK has to say
This would be Alisson’s third injury since joining Liverpool for around £66m in 2018. Both came at difficult times, too. The first was on the opening day of last season.
Alisson went down against Norwich City, handing Adrian a debut. And the Spaniard would keep that spot for some time as Alisson missed 11 games.
He then suffered a second injury in March of this year. That one proved devastating for the club’s Champions League campaign as it ruled him out of the meeting with Atletico Madrid. Adrian would step in and make some costly errors as the Reds crashed out.
This one comes right before an International break, however. Hopefully, that means the bulk of the time 0ut with be when Liverpool don’t have any games.
As for Adrian, he deputised well at the start of last season. Fingers crossed he can do the same as the team prepares to face Aston Villa without Alisson.
