Liverpool have had a worldie of a week. The Reds signed Thiago on the Friday, Diogo Jota on the Saturday and battered Chelsea on the Sunday. There is few better ways to spend a weekend. Kopites are enamoured with their new Spanish playmaker, David Ornstein has pinpointed the moment when Jürgen Klopp knew Thiago would be the perfect signing for Liverpool.
Liverpool sign Thiago
Thiago Alcantara had won everything there was to win at Bayern Munich.
Since arriving from Barcelona he had won the league title every single season and most recently he lifted the Champions League with the club.
The Spaniard purportedly told the Bavarians that he didn’t want to sign an extension as he headed into the final year of his contract.
Michael Edwards swooped in and signed the elite playmaker for just £20m guaranteed, a paltry fee to say the least.
When Klopp knew Thiago was perfect
The pursuit of Thiago was a long, protracted one. If you believe the papers, the Reds spent the entire summer trying to secure a deal.
According to David Ornstein, Jürgen Klopp was in Austria when he realised Thiago was the perfect signing for Liverpool. The journalist said on the Ask Ornstein show:
“Liverpool needed no convincing but when Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff were watching the Champions League final over a drink – at Liverpool’s pre-season training camp in Austria – it underlined the fact that Thiago would be the perfect signing for their team and their club.
“The Liverpool players were starting to get excited about the idea of this happening and the deal really came together last week in the early part. Around Monday, I think, there was a breakthrough in talks that had been taking place over the weekend.”
What RTK has to say
The Champions League final was the perfect showcase for Thiago’s abilities.
The decisive goal in the game came after the Spaniard fired a pass into the final third, allowing a breakthrough for the Germans which resulted in an inch perfect cross for Kingsley Coman.
It is a pretty picture though, isn’t it? Jürgen Klopp and the gang sat around having a bevvy waxing lyrical about Thiago, telling each other how he’ll fit in at Anfield.
The staff got their wish and the Spaniard is now a Red. We can’t wait to watch him terrorise the Premier League.
