Fernando Torres told Thiago about tradition behind hallowed Anfield sign

Liverpool have had a superb week. The Reds boosted their title defence hopes with a resounding victory at the home of supposed contenders Chelsea and they did so to cap off a weekend which saw two stellar signings. One of the signings is already working his way into the good books on the Kop. Fernando Torres allegedly told Thiago about the importance of the This is Anfield sign and as a result the midfielder elected not to touch it.

Liverpool sign Thiago

This summer Kopites were left sweating over new arrivals.

Some were content with starting the season without reinforcements whilst others felt that the side needed some backup in key areas.

After being told for months that there was no money in the pot for new arrivals, the club made our wishes come true.

Liverpool signed Thiago from Bayern Munich for £20m plus £5m in bonuses. The Spaniard was entering the final year of his contract at Bayern Munich, opening the door for a cut price deal to be struck.

Torres and Thiago

Controversial Liverpool icon Fernando Torres enjoyed some memorable times at Anfield before he broke our hearts with a move to Chelsea.

Raphinha, Coutinho and Tielemans: The signings Liverpool could make this summer

The ex-Atleti striker played the best football of his career whilst playing for the Reds and he still holds the club dear to his heart.

Fernando Torres apparently spoke to his countryman Thiago Alcantara about his move to Liverpool.

In a behind the scenes video released by the club, Thiago revealed that Torres had advised him not to touch the This is Anfield sign until he had earned the right to. Alcantara told the media team:

“As I heard once from Fernando Torres, this [sign] remains ever the place we pass by, for four more years [for me].

“And to touch this symbol we have to deserve it and to win as many trophies as we can. That’s why today I will not. I will respect this tradition.”

What RTK has to say

Be still my beating heart.

First he greets us with ‘how are we’, then he tells us he wants to respect tradition and earn his right to touch the This is Anfield sign.

Next he’ll be down town singing Beatles tunes on the karaoke. Thiago clearly has a lot of admiration for the club and its traditions and that will earn him plenty of credit with the fans, as if he needed it.

We already adore him and we imagine this relationship will only strengthen over time. Viva Thiago Alcantara.
